4 things every marketing manager should do when they arrive at the office each day

Marketing jobs aren’t filled with fun, creative briefs, collective brainstorms and dream clients all the time.

In fact, you will know that being a marketing manager can be challenging and requires meticulous organisation, not to mention interpersonal skills and attention to detail when it comes to data.

So what can you do each morning to make sure you sail smoothly from Monday to Friday with a happy team and content client or CEO?

We bring you 4 things every good marketing manager should do on arrival at the office each day to ensure their week goes off with a bang…

1. Write a stellar to-do list

Although it’s not uncommon for people to write a to-do list each day, a marketing manager should endeavour to not only list their workload, but prioritise it all on paper in order to map out what they need to do first, what they need to schedule, what they need to delegate and what they can scrap altogether. In doing this, your week will be mapped out before you’ve even had time to take that first sip of your morning coffee.

2. Check the press

A good marketing manager will have already signed up to most industry online outlets so will no doubt receive a rundown of what’s hot and what’s not straight to their inbox – but that’s not enough. Check all social media accounts and note what’s trending and what’s not; look at developing news and any moves your competitors might be making and keep your ears to the ground to stay one step ahead of the game at all times.

3. Review your strategy

Although the goal will always be the same, the way in which you reach it will ebb, flow and change on a daily basis. Poor management will stick to the devised plan meticulously, but the best marketing managers will reassess each day and alter the path accordingly. Marketing is never a one-way street so review your campaigns and strategy regularly.

4. Touch base with colleagues

Although much of your time will be spent staring at a screen, no marketing campaign can be executed to its fullest potential without a sturdy team behind you to make it happen. Make sure you brief your team in the mornings, at least twice weekly, and step away from your desk to touch base with colleagues throughout the day to ensure everyone is on course.

Whether you are new to the role or not, these four steps are guaranteed to turn you into a stellar marketing manager to rival the rest.
